The attack occurred at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington D.C., near the Capitol and about 1.5 miles from the White House. The suspect was seen walking back and forth in front of the museum before the shooting. He shouted 'Palestina libre' (Free Palestine) as he was arrested. The victims were identified as Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Lynn Milgrim, diplomats who worked at the Israeli embassy. They had attended an event at the museum when they were ambushed by the attacker. The event was a reception for young diplomats from AJC ACCESS, which aimed to bring together young Jewish professionals between 22 and 45 years old, as well as the diplomatic community in Washington. The victims were described as a young couple who were about to get engaged. The man had bought an engagement ring this week with the intention of proposing to his girlfriend next week in Jerusalem. The attack was condemned by various officials, including President Donald Trump, Secretary Marco Rubio, and Israeli Ambassador Yechiel Leiter. They expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and vowed to track down those responsible for the attack.
